Weekly Doctors Appointment

Starting at 36 weeks, I am now going to the doctor weekly. I had an appointment on Tuesday. Her heartbeat was 138bpm. I saw a new doctor this week because my doctor was on vacation. Also this new doctor could be the one to deliver the baby so it was good to meet him.
He did an examine on me and said that I was dilated 1cm and thinning. He said that he head was in the down position, which is very good. He also said that he could feel her head!! He said he thought she could either be early or at least right at her due date. So the doctors appointment was very exciting!! And it sounds like our little girl could be here very soon.
Last night I started washing all of her clothes, blankets, etc. I now need to pack her diaper bag and my bags too. Craig and I are going this week to get the car seat installed by the fire department and let them teach us how to install it. We're just trying to get the last little things done before she gets here. We are so excited!!
I have decided between now and the time she gets here I am relaxing!! We aren't doing anything for New Years, just hanging out at the house. We're pretty much going to keep the whole month of January open, just in case. :)

I hope everyone has a Happy and Safe New Year. Of course Craig and I are looking forward to the new year. :)

36 Weeks

Today, I am 36 weeks pregnant!! The baby is now packing on the pounds at a rate of about an ounce a day. She now weighs almost 6lbs (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. She is shedding most of the downing covering of hair that covered her body as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that covered and protected her skin during her nine month amniotic bath. She swallows both of these substances along with other secretions, resulting in a blackish mixture called meconium, which will form the contents of her first bowl movement (YAY!).
At the end of this week the baby will be considered full term (full term is 37-42 weeks).

In honor of Baby Girl Wertz this week, have a crenshaw melon. :)

Christmas 2009

The Robinson and Wertz ladies
Craig and I with his parents and sister Sarah

Craig and I with my parents, aunt, uncle and cousin

Craig and I with my parents

Craig and I were so blessed this Christmas (we are every Christmas actually). But this Christmas was really special for us. We were not able to travel home because of how far along I am in my pregnancy. So my family came to us this year. My Mom, Dad, brother Travis, sister-in-law Mandy, Uncle Mark, Aunt Maura and Cousin Olivia. They are traveled on Christmas Eve to our house. We had Christmas Eve dinner with all of my family and Craig's family (Mom, Dad and Sister). Then we opened presents with my family and visited. It was so nice having both families together. Craig and I love BIG families.

Then on Christmas Day we (Craig and I and his family) did our traditional Christmas celebration and opened presents together. When we were finished my family came over to the Wertz'. Travis and Mandy had to leave early because Travis had to work the next day in Memphis. :( The visits are NEVER long enough. The rest of us visited at Craig's parents house all day and had Christmas dinner.

It was a great weekend. Craig and I are so blessed to have such a wonderful family. Our Baby Girl is so lucky to have such a great family. We can't wait until she gets here to meet everyone!!

35 Weeks

Last Wednesday, Dec. 23rd, I was 35 weeks pregnant!! She doesn't have that much room to maneuver now that she is about 18 inches long and weighs about 5 1/4lbs (the size of a honeydew melon). Because she is so snug in the womb, she isn't doing somersaults anymore. But I am still feeling her kick and punch. :)
Her kidneys are fully developed now and her liver can process some waste products now. Most of her physical development is now complete, she'll now spend the next few weeks putting on weight. :)
I am now starting to go to the doctor once a week (my next appointment is tomorrow). I can't wait to hear the heartbeat and see what position she is in.

In honor of Baby Girl Wertz this week, have a honeydew melon. :)

34 Weeks

Today, Wednesday Dec. 16th, I am 34 weeks pregnant. Our baby girl now weighs about 4 3/4lbs (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers, which will help regulate her body temperature once she is born, are filling her out and making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. According to the baby center website, babies born between 34-37 weeks who have no other health problems, generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short term health issues, but in the long run they usually do as well as full term babies.

Lets hope and pray that she doesn't decide to get her until her due date. I am anxious to see her but I want everything to be developed and her to be as healthy as she can be. So I'm praying for Jan. 27th. :)

As for me, here lately I have been feeling a little more tired. I am mostly physically wore out. Plus I don't sleep that much as night so that is taking a toll on me too. I wonder when I will be able to get a good nights sleep again. :)

Craig and I are so excited for her to get here. We almost want the holidays to fly by just so she can get here faster.

I had a doctors appointment yesterday and everything looked normal. My blood pressure was 104/60 (a little low) and her heartbeat was 157bpm. My hands and feet are swelling more (I'm not able to wear my wedding ring anymore) but the doctor said she is not concerned because my blood pressure was low. She said that I will probably start to feel contractions and to just keep track of them and make sure they aren't consistent yet. My next appointment I will be meeting with another doctor that is in the practice just in case my doctor can not deliver me. WOW, its so weird to start talking about labor and preparing for it. I am so excited!!! :)

In honor of Baby Girl Wertz this week, have a cantaloupe. :)

33 Weeks

Today, Dec. 9th, I am 33 weeks pregnant. :) This week the baby is just over 4lbs, the same size as a pineapple (I LOVE pineapples!!). She has passed the 17 inch mark in length. She is rapidly losing that wrinkled alien look and her skeleton is hardening. The bones in her skull aren't fused together which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for her to move and fit through the birth canal. (The pressure on the head during birth is so intense that many babies are born with a cone-head like appearance.) These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as her brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.

Things are about the same with me. Still having back pain and trouble sleeping and some swelling. But I'm still getting around. :) And as happy as can be that she's almost here! You are considered full term at 37 weeks, so that means she could be here as early as in 4 weeks. :)

Craig and I have almost completed the nursery. We still need to get some kind of chair to put in the nursery for feedings and organize things. And we are still debating about her name. It's such a hard and permanent decision. We think that we will wait until we see her and decide.

Right now Craig and I are trying to make any last minute decisions (child care, insurance etc...) and we need to get the car seat installed by the fire department (yes its that difficult to install).

Other than all that, we are looking forward to Christmas and spending time with our family and friends.

In honor of Baby Girl Wertz this week, have a whole pineapple. :)

Doctors Appointment

On Tuesday Dec. 1st I went back to the doctor. I am now going every 2 weeks. In January I will go every week as my due date gets closer.
I had some concerns to talk to the doctor about because I had been having some very uncomfortable pains in my lower abdomen. They were very intense pains that stopped me in my tracks. So I talked to the doctor and she said that the baby is now getting in position for birth so she has started to move her head down and is very low. The baby is pushing on a nerve in my lower abdomen. That is the intense pain that I am feeling. She said to stop whatever I am doing and lay down when the pain occurs and hopefully the baby will move positions and stop pushing on the nerve. This little girl loves getting on my nerves already. HA HA. :)

Everything else was normal. My blood pressure, my belly is measuring right on track and her heartbeat (which I got to hear again) was 145 bpm, which is healthy!! I love getting a good report from the doctor. So now I go back in 2 weeks (Dec. 15th). Time is flying and she will be here before we know it. YAY!!!

Please keep all 3 of us in your thoughts and prayers. :)

32 Weeks

Today, Dec. 2nd, I am 32 weeks pregnant. Only 8 weeks to go!!!! YAY!!
By now she weighs 3.75 pounds (about the same weight as a jicama??). She is about 16.7 inches long and taking up a lot of room in my uterus. I'll now start to gain about 1 pound a week and half of that pound goes directly to her. In fact she will gain 1/3rd to half of her birth weight within the next 7 weeks as she fattens up for survival outside the womb. She now has toenails, fingernails and real hair. He skin is becoming soft and smooth as she plumps up and prepares for birth.

In honor of our Baby Girl, have a jicama (if you have any idea what it is), this week. :)

31 Weeks

Today, Nov. 25th, I am 31 weeks pregnant. She measures over 16 inches long and weighs about 3.3 pounds (about the same as 4 navel oranges) and she is heading into a growth spurt. She can turn her head from side to side and her arms, legs and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat is beginning to accumulate underneath the skin. She is moving alot and that is a sign of an active and healthy baby. I am loving every minute of it! I can feel her all over my belly now so I know she is getting big. I think I will miss this feeling once she is born.

Craig and I have been working on the nursery. Our wonderful friends Todd and Laura bought the paint and Todd helped Craig paint the nursery as their gift to us. Craig and I are going to finish the painting this weekend and get the furniture up. I can't wait!!! I will post pictures when it is done. :)

In honor of Baby Girl Wertz this week, have 4 navel oranges. :)

3rd Baby Shower for our Baby Girl

CUTE diaper cake Jennifer Harp made

Isn't this cute! I LOVE cupcakes!

On Sunday Nov. 22nd, my good friend Rachelle Bevington threw me another baby shower at her home in Frankfort. It was a perfect day! We played games, ate great food and our baby girl got some wonderful presents. I am so thankful for the friends that Craig and I have. This little girl is already so loved and blessed. :)

2nd Baby Shower for our Baby Girl

The 2 of us with Mom and Dad (aka Grandma and Grandpa Robinson)

The center piece on the cake was so cute!

The 2 of us with the pretty cake table

On Sunday Nov. 15th my Mom and my aunt threw me another baby shower in Rockport with family and friends. Again, I was overwhelmed by the people who came and how generous everyone was. Obviously it was a very emotional weekend for me. I feel so blessed that our baby girl has so much loved surrounding her. Here are some pictures from the family/friends shower.

1st Baby Shower for our Baby Girl

The 2 of us with the cake. :)

This is the cake that my friend Lexy made me. Isn't it cute!?!?

This is everyone that came to my shower in Owensboro

This past weekend (Nov. 14th) I went to Owensboro for a Baby Shower my wonderful friend Charisse Gough threw for me with all of my Owensboro girlfriends. I was so overwhelmed by the people that came and how generous they all were. We had such a good time. It was like a reunion (since we all have known each other for 10 plus years). It made me miss everyone even more. It was a GREAT time!!! Here are some picture from the shower.

30 Weeks

Today I am 30 weeks pregnant and I feel like I have hit a milestone or something. Only 10 weeks to go (as long as she doesn't come early).
She is now about 15.7 inches long and weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of a cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and takes up more room in my uterus. Her eyesight continues to develop, though its not very keen. Even after she is born she will keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them she will respond to changes in light but she will have 20/400 vision, which means she will only be able to make out objects a few inches from her face.

My belly is definitely getting bigger and is starting to get really heavy. It's getting harder to sleep and its making me have back pain. I have been experimenting with different ways to sleep to try to help the discomfort. But I know this is for a good reason and I don't mind. :)

In honor of Baby Girl Wertz this week, have a head of cabbage. :)

November Doctors appointment

On Tuesday the 10th, I went to my monthly doctors appointment. This appointment was different because I had to take a diabetes test. I had to drink this sweet orange-like juice and then wait an hour and go back for them to take my blood. I still have not heard the results of the test, but I always say....no news is good news. :)
I also saw my OBGYN and we did our regular check-up. My blood pressure was good and I have no swelling.....yet. She measured my belly and everything is right on track. I also heard her heartbeat again....137bpm. Which is a good, strong, healthy heartbeat!! When the nurse put the monitor on my belly to hear her heartbeat, she kicked it. :) It was really funny b/c the nurse felt it. I think she's going to be a soccer player like her mom and uncle. :)

I also talked to my doctor about the H1N1 vaccine and as of this morning I have received the shot. She said it is completely safe for me and the baby and she highly recommended that I get it. I fell much better now that I have gotten it but Craig and I both will still be very careful this winter.

Now I start going to the doctor every 2 weeks. It's getting closer to time and they need to keep an extra close watch on the 2 of us. :) This weekend I am going home (Owensboro/Rockport) because my wonderful friend Chari and my wonderful mother and aunt are giving me baby showers. I can't wait to see everyone. I bet it will be a really emotional weekend!! :)

29 Weeks

I know I am behind on updating my blog and I apologize to my followers. :) It is the busiest time of the year for us at work and I have had so many other things I need to get done after work.
On Wednesday, I was 29 weeks pregnant. Our baby girl now weighs 2 1/2 pounds, like a butternut squash and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. Her muscles and lungs are continuing to mature and her head is growing bigger to make room for her developing brain. To meet her increasing nutritional demands, I'll need plenty of protein, vitamin C, folic acid and iron in this last trimester. And because her bones are soaking up lots of calcium, I'll need more calcium (yummmm hot chocolate with milk!) This last trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited into her hardening skeleton each day!
In honor of Baby Girl Wertz this week, have a butternut squash. :)

28 Weeks/Third Trimester

Today, I am 28 weeks pregnant, the beginning of my third and last trimester. That is kind-of scary but exciting! That means she will be here before we know it! And there is still so much that needs to be done.

This week Baby Girl Wertz weighs 2 and a quarter pounds (the same as a Chinese Cabbage) and is 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport eye lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through the womb. She is also adding millions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.
In honor of Baby Girl Wertz this week, have a Chinese cabbage. :)

Bun in the Oven and The Bun Maker

This is the 2nd year that we have gone to our friends Halloween party in Louisville. Our good friends Ryan and Katie Thompson started a traditional last year to have a Halloween party every year. It's always (the last 2 years) been a great time. And everyone really gets into it and dresses up. There is even a contest. We only lost by 1 vote. But we still had a good time. :)

Halloween Pumpkins

This past Sunday Craig and I decided to get into the fall spirit. We went out to Boyd's Orchard to pick out our Halloween pumpkins and enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Of course because it was so pretty outside the orchard was really crowded. So we went out there and had lunch and looked around a little while. The kids at the orchard were running around like crazy, throwing fits and I was afraid Craig was going to regret this whole procreating thing. HA HA. :)

So we came back into town and went to King's Nursery where the pumpkins were cheaper and the children were tame. We had 3 pumpkins to get this year. :) After we picked out our pumpkins we took them over to Craig's parents house to carve/paint them and visit with his sister, Sarah, who was in town for the weekend. We had a great visit with the whole family. And we finally told Craig's parents that we were having a little girl. They were hesitant about knowing because they wanted to be surprised. But I think they were happy to know.

I have included a picture of our family pumpkins this year. I have never painted my pumpkin before and I did this year and it was a lot of fun. :) Craig's mom has some really creative ideas for pumpkin carving/decorating. Mine is the one with the house and Craig's is the one with the face. Craig didn't use a stencil, he did his free hand. I was very impressed. ENJOY!

And Happy Halloween. Craig and I are going to a Halloween party this weekend and I'll post pictures after the weekend.

27 Weeks

Today I am 27 weeks pregnant, the last week in my 2nd trimester. Time has flown by. This week the baby weighs almost 2 pounds, like the head of a cauliflower and is about 14 1/2 inches long, if she was stretched out from head to toe. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes and possibly sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, her brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning (with a lot of medical help), if she were to be born now. I have started to feel some tickle in my belly and they say that is her hiccuping, HOW CUTE! :)

In honor of Baby GIRL Wertz this week, have a cauliflower. :)

New Fall TV Show

I know I usually blog about our family (this is a little about our family) but Craig and I have discovered a great new fall show that we love and I wanted to share. The show is called Modern Family. It's on ABC on Wednesday nights at 9pm est. It never fails every week we are both sitting on the couch cracking up at this show. Check it out....you won't regret it!

26 Weeks

Today, Oct. 21st, I am 26 weeks pregnant. The network of nerves in the baby's ears are better developed and more sensitive than before. She may now be able to hear my voice and Craig's when we have a conversation. She's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid which we saw in the ultrasound last week. :) This is very essential for the developing of the lungs. These so called breathing movements are also good practice for when she is born and takes the first gulp of air. She is continuing to put on body fat. She now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches from head to heel, the length of an English hothouse cucumber (I wonder who comes up with these comparisons?!?!?!)
In honor of Baby GIRL Wertz this week, have an English hothouse cucumber. I have never had one, so if you do eat one, let me know about it. :)

Since we have spread our great, joyous news that we are having a little girl, we have received a gift from our good friend Ellen. The baby's very first (and probably only, unless aunt Ellen wants to buy her more) Ralph Lauren pink dress. I can't wait for her to wear it. Also, Grandma Robinson has already bought her about 10 different outfits. It's kind-of a tease to get these clothes because she's not here to wear them yet. The anticipation is driving me crazy. :)
We have decided on a theme for her nursery and we need to get started because I know when the holidays get here things will go by really fast.

Please continue to keep all 3 of us in your thoughts and prayers as we continue through this pregnancy. And Thank You to everyone who has sent their well wishes! We have been very blessed! :)

Sex of the Baby......Part II

On Tuesday Oct. 13th Craig and I had our October doctors appointment and an ultrasound. If you remember in September when we had the ultrasound little Baby Wertz had its legs crossed and we couldn't determine the sex. Well this time we were lucky and he/she let us see. But before I get to the sex of the baby, I just wanted everyone to know that everything is going great with Baby Wertz (spinal cord looks good) and with me. I am finally getting over this cold. :)

In the ultrasound we got to visit again with our little baby. I loved it!! I could sit there all day! We saw he/she swallowing, kicking their legs and moving their arms. The ultrasound lady had to wiggle the baby around a little bit so we could get a good read on the sex. And finally at the end we found out that we are having a little GIRL!!!!!!!!! Craig and I are so excited!! He wanted a little girl and this whole time I thought it was a boy...oops. :) As you can see I have added some pictures of HER <-------- I LOVE saying that!! And she is sooooooooo cute. I can't wait to meet her in January. ENJOY! And please keep all 3 of us in your thoughts and prayers throughout this pregnancy.

25 Weeks/October Doctors Appointment

Today I am 25 weeks pregnant. The baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches long and weighs about 1 1/2 pounds, about as much as an average rutabaga. The baby will now start to gain body fat and his/her skin will start to smooth out and start to look more and more like a newborn. The baby is also starting to grow hair and if we could see inside the womb we could see the color and texture its going to be.
In honor of Baby Wertz this week, eat or cook with a rutabaga. I have no idea what one is or what you are supposed to do with it.
Fall has definitely hit Lexington. Its been colder and more fall like each day. This past weekend I got a cold and it has not been fun. At our appointment yesterday the doctor listened to my lungs and she said they sound clear, which is good. I am very nervous about getting the flu or this H1N1. And people around my office are getting bronchitis and pneumonia. When you are pregnant you immune system is weaker and you are more susceptible to things. So I have been very careful, washing everything, hand sanitizer, washing my hands. I am hoping I don't get anything this winter.
Craig and I had our October doctors appointment yesterday, Oct. 13th and had another ultrasound done. Please stay tuned for pictures and to find out the sex of the baby..................

Fall Fun

Baby Taylor meets Baby Wertz
Craig and Jason waiting to dominate at the cornhole tournament. They look really excited!

Craig and I both had a pretty busy weekend last weekend , Oct. 9-11th. On Friday we went out with a couple of his high school friends that were in town for their 10 year high school reunion. We had dinner and drinks (I had water) with Marshall and Erin Ellington and Jordan Blair and his girlfriend. It was a great time. It's so nice getting together with Marshall and Erin. We try to see them at least once a year at Christmas time but I think this year we might be seeing them twice. :)

On Saturday morning Craig and I both were up bright and early. I had the Hartland yard sale to work and Craig was off to Louisville to play paintball with some friends for Brad Eickhoff's bachelor party.

On Sunday we went to my company picnic at Spindletop Hall in Lexington. It was a little cool but the sun was out so it made it a little better. We had a fabulous buffet lunch, raffle drawings and a cornhole tournament. Craig entered the tournament with my friend Katie's husband, Jason (she is also pregnant with her first baby due in late Oct.). And the boys won the whole tournament!!! Katie and I were very proud. I have attached some pictures of the picnic.

24 Weeks

Today, Oct. 7th, I am 24 weeks pregnant. The baby is really growing and so is my belly. The baby weighs over 1 pound and is about a foot long, the length of an ear of corn. The baby is lean but the body is filling out proportionally and he/she will soon start to plump up. His/Her brain is also growing quickly now, and the taste buds are continuing to develop. The lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his/her air sacs inflate once he/she hits the outside world. The skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

My belly is really growing, I feel like it gets bigger each day. Which is making it harder and harder to sleep. Which is getting me ready for when the baby comes, I assume. :) Other than not sleeping very well, I feel pretty good. I have a lot more energy lately, so I can't complain.

Tonight after dinner, Craig and I sat on the couch watching T.V. and the baby started kicking. So I took Craig's hand, thinking this time hopefully he could feel the baby. This is something that we have done a lot lately and unfortunately Craig never feels the baby. Well tonight almost as soon as his hand was on my belly, the baby kicked really hard and Craig felt it!! It was so exciting! He had the biggest smile on his face, he loved it! He thought it was really cool. :) I am so happy he finally got to feel our baby.

In honor of Baby Wertz this week, have an ear of corn. :)

23 Weeks, Beginning of the 6th month

Today, Sept. 30th I am 23 weeks pregnant, the beginning of my 6th month! This baby is so active and I am loving every minute of it. In fact I would prefer the baby to kick me rather than not. :) People tell me that I will change my mind as the baby gets bigger because sometimes those kicks can really hurt.

Baby Wertz is over 11 inches long and weighs more than 1 pound, about as much as a large mango. Last night I could see the baby kick me in my stomach. It was so neat. Craig still has not felt the baby kick yet, but our friend Laura got to feel the baby kick the other night. :) Blood vessels in the babys lungs are developing to prepare for breathing and the baby can hear loud sounds. Hopefully these loud sounds, the vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, will become familiar to the baby so it will not faze him/her when they are in the outside world.

I am feeling pretty good. Having a little trouble sleeping but I guess that's just getting me prepared for when the baby arrives. :) I really can't complain because the 2nd trimester is going pretty smooth.

In honor of Baby Wertz this week, have a mango!!

Blog Crazy/Fall Beginnings

I have just discovered how to make changes (cute changes) to my blog and I have gone crazy. I keep changing things because I keep finding cute backgrounds. But I think for the fall/halloween season I will keep this pumpkin background.

Right now (end of September/beginning of October) I am going through EVERYTHING in our house trying to collect things for a yard sale the weekend of Oct. 10th. Craig's parents (my in-laws) subdivision has a spring and fall yard sale. So I am trying to clean things out of the house to make room for the baby and in return make some extra cash. Lets pray the weather is good that day. :)

Also that weekend is the opening weekend of Keeneland. 3 weeks of live horse racing. :) YAY!! I use to get really excited about this, but I'm not for sure how I feel this year about standing all day and waiting in line for the restrooms. We'll probably go on a slow day. :)

September has been a busy month. It's sad to see it come to an end. But we have so much to look forward to, I can't help but be excited for fall. September we made a lot of memories with our trip to Gatlinburg with Mom and Dad. Our 20 week ultrasound and seeing our baby again. Of course there was the disappointment in not finding out the sex, but finding out that everything was normal was the BEST news we've ever heard. And celebrating Mom and Dad's 40th wedding anniversary with them and our family. They truly represent what "true love" is. Thanks for the great example Mom and Dad. :)

Cheers to a fun, happy and safe fall! :)

Love-
Michelle

22 Weeks

Today, Sept. 23rd, I am 22 weeks pregnant! The baby is 11 inches in length, (the length of a spaghetti squash) and weighs 1 pound. The baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His/Her lips, eyelids and eyebrows are becoming more distinct and he/she is developing tiny tooth buds beneath the gums. The eyes have formed but the irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside the womb you'd be able to spot the fine hair on the body and the deep wrinkles on the skin.

I am feeling the baby move more and more. This baby is very active. I love it!! If I put my hand on my belly you can feel when the baby kicks. Unfortunately Craig hasn't gotten to feel it yet.

Right now I am trying to come up with a good Halloween costume for a pregnant lady. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. :)
I am really looking forward to fall, probably because it's even closer to my due date. I know Craig and I will be very busy but I know I need to find some time to slow down and rest.

In honor of Baby Wertz this week, have a spaghetti squash. :)

Sex of the Baby

Last Friday Sept. 11, 2009 Craig and I had an ultrasound and doctors appointment. We were told that by 20 weeks we would be able to tell the sex of the baby on the ultrasound. We were so excited!! I told Craig, after today we will know who dominates in the house, boys or girls (we have 1 cat that is a girl and 1 that is a boy). We were in the ultrasound appointment for a good 30 minutes and we traveled all around my uterus. It was the greatest experience I had ever had. We saw the babies legs kicking, it opening and closing its mouth. It was very active. I could've sat there all day and watched it. The doctor requires you to have this ultrasound done at 20 weeks to measure the baby and see how everything is developing. So the technician took a lot of pictures. Towards the end, the technician said she was trying to determine the sex but was having some trouble. We asked "WHY". So she showed us a picture of the baby with its legs crossed!! The picture is a side view. And she of course wrote "legs crossed". She said that she usually can make a guess, but today she had no idea. I couldn't believe it. This child is already not cooperating. ;) Even though it was very frustrating not finding out. I LOVE this picture! It is so cute! And I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. After we did the ultrasound we met with our doctor and she said that everything from the ultrasound looked good and everything was normal. The only thing that they did not get a good picture of was the spinal cord. SO........she is requiring us to come back and have another ultrasound done. YAY! The baby will be much bigger then (25 weeks) and hopefully it will be spread out, with the legs spread apart. :) Plus we get to see our baby again! October can't get here fast enough.
So even though we didn't have sex news of the baby. We do have great news, everything looks good and normal!! And that's all we want! :)

21 Weeks

Today Sept. 16th, I am 21 weeks pregnant. The baby now weighs 3 quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long, the length of a carrot (not a baby carrot). I am feeling the baby more and more and I love it! The kicks are getting stronger and it no longer just feels like a little flutter. :) But I don't mind at all. The baby's eyebrows and lids are present now.

In honor of Baby Wertz this week, have a carrot. :)

20 Weeks

Today is 9/9/09 and I am 20 weeks, halfway through my pregnancy. I can't believe how time has flown by. And I can not wait to meet Baby Wertz. Only a couple more weeks and we will know what we are having. :)
The baby weighs 10 1/2 ounces, 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel, the length of a banana. For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his/her torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his/her head to his/her bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he or she is measured from head to toe.)
He/She is swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his/her digestive system.
As soon as we get the next ultrasound picture I will post it. I'll also post some pictures of our trip to Gatlinburg last weekend.

In honor of Baby Wertz this week, have a banana. :)

19 Weeks

Today, Sept. 2nd I am 19 weeks pregnant. The baby's sensory development is exploding. His/Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision and touch. Some research suggests that he/she may be able to hear our voices now. So I am going to start talking and singing to my stomach more. :)
The baby weighs 8 1/2 ounces and is 6 inches long (head to bottom). About the size of a large heirloom tomato. His/Her arms and legs are in the right proportion to each other and the rest of their body now.
I have been feeling some discomfort in my stomach, I am assuming that is the baby moving around and kicking. I just can't wait to feel the baby all the time and distinguish what kicks are. Only a couple more weeks and we will know the sex. :)

In honor of Baby Wertz this week, have a large heirloom tomato.

18 Weeks

Today, Wednesday Aug. 26th, I am 18 weeks pregnant. The baby is now 5 1/2 inches long, about the length of a bell pepper, and weighs about 7 ounces. He/She is busy flexing his/her arms and legs. This explains why the baby was so active at the last appointment. And I have started to notice some flutters in my stomach. I love it!! In the middle of September we will have an ultrasound and find out what we are having. As long as the baby is not being shy. In honor of baby Wertz this week, have a yummy bell pepper. :)

August Doctors appointment

Friday Aug. 21st was our Aug. doctors appointment. Everything was good. The baby was very active when we were trying to hear the heartbeat. The heartbeat was 178bpm. At our September appointment we will find out the sex of the baby. It can't get here fast enough. :)

This is a belly picture of me at 17 weeks. This was taken at Mom and Dad's last weekend. Craig and I went home to see Mom and Dad and our friends. It's always good to go back home for a visit.

17 Weeks- 5 months

I am now 17 weeks pregnant. The beginning of my 5th month. The baby now weights 5 ounces and is 5 inches long from head to bottom, the size of a turnip. Baby Wertz can move his/her joints and his/her sweat glands are forming. The baby's skeleton is changing from cartilage to bone and the umbilical cord is growing thicker and stronger.

Friday I have my August doctors appointment. I can't wait to hear the heartbeat! I'll update the blog with what the doctor says on Friday.

Yesterday, Aug. 19th, Dan and Rachelle Bevington had their little girl Mallory Grace Bevington at 1:53 pm. She weight 6lbs 13oz and is 19 inches long. She is so cute and tiny. She looks just like her big sister Ellie. Rachelle and Mallory are doing good. :)

16 Weeks

Today, Wednesday Aug. 12th, I am 16 weeks (4 months). The baby is now 4 1/2 inches long and weighs 3 1/2 ounces. About the size of an avocado. The baby has started growing toenails. The baby's little heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day. Over the next few weeks the baby will double in weight and add inches to his/her length. Our next doctors appointment is next Friday the 21st. At our September appointment we will find out what we are having. :)

So in honor of Baby Wertz, have an avocado or some guacamole this week. :)

15 Weeks

Today Wednesday Aug. 5th I am 15 weeks.
Baby Wertz is now the size of an apple. The baby now meaures about 4 1/2 inches and weighs about 2 1/2 ounces. Baby Wertz' legs are growing longer than their arms and he/she can move all their joints and limbs. Although their eyelids are fused shut, he/she can sense light. If we were to shine a flashlight at my tummy he/she would move away from the light. (We won't be trying this experiment). Baby Wertz is also developing taste buds this week.

So in honor of Baby Wertz, eat an apple this week. :)

14 Weeks

On Wednesday July 29th, I was 14 weeks. Offically in my 2nd trimester. The baby is now the size of a lemon, 3 1/2 inches long and weighs 1 1/2 ounces. The baby can now squint, frown, grimace and pee. If we were to do an ultrasound we could possibly see him/her sucking their thumb. (I did as a baby so its a good possiblity). So in honor of Baby Wertz have a glass of lemonade sometime this week. Please keep all 3 of us in your thoughts and prayers.

Baby's First Wedding ;)

Can you believe these 2 are going to be parents!?!? HA HA

July 18, 2009, Craig was a groomsman in Alby and Morgan Ransom's wedding. It was a fun filled weekend. I was exhausted by Sunday.
July 24, 2009. We had another doctors appointment on the 24th. Everything looks "normal". Those were the doctors words. I got to hear the baby's heartbeat again, this time it was 163 bpm. Its slowed down a little. Dr. Kimberly Bain in our doctor (love her). She said that anywhere between 120 and 170 is a good heartbeat. No ultrasound picture this time. In September when I am 20 weeks we will have the next ultrasound and hopefully find out what the sex is. :) Please keep all 3 of us in your thoughts and prayers.

First Ultrasound Picture

This is the first ultrasound picture of baby Wertz. Isn't he/she cute!!! This was our June doctors appointment. We heard the heartbeat for the first time....173bpm. If you click on the picture it will get larger. Enjoy! :)
